| MICE Overview | “The Photonics and Electromagnetics Research Symposium” (PIERS) is an international conference covering a wide range of topics in electromagnetic engineering, such as antennas, electromagnetic theory, communications and remote sensing. It is one of the largest international conferences in the field, bringing together researchers in photonics and electromagnetic engineering from all over the world. The conference was previously held in Osaka in 2001, Tokyo in 2006 and in Toyama in 2018, with 2025 marking the fourth time that the event has been held in Japan. |

2025 Photonics and Electromagnetics Research Symposium (PIERS 2025 Chiba)
One of the largest international conferences in the field of photonics and electromagnetics was held at Makuhari Messe from the 5th to the 9th of November 2025. In addition to His Majesty the Emperor, 1,683 participants (1,294 from abroad) from 47 countries attended the opening ceremony.
■Chiba, an International Conference City Bringing Together Researchers from Around the World
An International Academic Conference with Over 1,600 Researchers from 47 Countries
In November 2025, the largest conference in the field of Photonics and Electromagnetic Engineering, PIERS 2025 Chiba, was held at Makuhari Messe. Over a period of five days, 1,638 researchers and engineers (1,294 from abroad) from 47 countries participated in active academic exchange and international discussions. In addition to the presence of His Majesty the Emperor, over 1,000 people attended the opening ceremony of the conference.
The economic impact of the conference was estimated at approximately 376 million yen and it made a significant contribution to the local economy through accommodation, transportation and food and beverage services
PIERS 2025 Chiba became a symbolic example demonstrating Chiba’s strong potential as a host city for international conferences.
